Using the train as a group can overcome fear of travelling, increase confidence, educate, and provide a great day out.
Over the coming year 19/2020 The Penistone Line Partnership hope to engage with local community groups, along the Penistone Line. Trains run from Huddersfield to Sheffield with numerous places to visit located near the stations on the line.
We especially want to engage with Dementia Groups and their carers, Mental Health Support Groups, local CIC's, schools wanting rail safety workshops, home school groups, LGBTQ+ Groups, Cycling and Walking Groups, Autism Support Groups. Specialist Interest groups.
You may want to see how a trip on the line goes with a small group, and we can arrange a taster day. We may be able to gain funding for projects which involve local communities or link up in other ways. Any ideas are welcome. We hope to build strong relationships with our local communities and improve our understanding of special needs and support individuals with an inclusive approach and understanding.
The trains pass through beautiful countryside, between the town of wool and the city of steel. We are improving our station environments with artwork, heritage information, planters, and volunteers.
We have special Santa and Carol trains in December, Music Trains, we even had a Knitter Natter train to support Woven in Kirklees Festival. Questions and ideas welcome....
