Comoodle has a large quantity of resources to dispose of, and we want to pass them to the local community.
Whether you're an established organisation or just a few folk who want to do worthwhile things, we'd like to invite you to a resource giveaway event in Huddersfield. We have electronics, games, sports equipment, clothing, furniture and much more that needs a good home and could be used for a variety of youth projects and other community activities. All this is available for free to take away and we expect demand to be high, so be sure to book early!
We are holding events at Paddock Youth Centre on Thursday 15th February 2018 from 5.00 - 8.00 pm and on Wednesday 21st February 2018 from 10.30 am - 3.30 pm. You can book a place HERE.
At Comoodle we believe in getting the most out of every resource. We know that things like furniture can't be shared once they get to their new home but other things, like musical instruments and event tables, can be used by many different groups across Kirklees. So if you take away one of these shareable items we'd like you to make it available to other community groups via the Comoodle platform. Please read our FAQ below about Becoming a Comoodle Custodian.
If you'd like to know more about the Comoodle project and the activities we support, visit us at www.comoodle.com or follow us on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Follow us to find out about future giveaway events we hope to hold elsewhere in Kirklees.
FAQs
Who can take these things away?
To take these items you just need to be able to tell us how you will use them to for the benefit of the Kirklees community. Items cannot be used for personal or commercial gain but if you can tell the story of how they will help local people, we will be happy to work with you. You do not need to be a constituted group to take away items. We will need you to show ID so we know who has taken what, and where it went.
If I take something at the giveaway is it mine to keep?
You can keep the item for as long as it is useful for your activities. We only ask that if you no longer need it, you offer it back to the Comoodle project in the first instance. Above all we do not want any resources to go to waste.
What kind of things are available?
We have some things like furniture and stationary that just need a good home in the community. We also have music and electronic equipment, stackable chairs, folding tables, costumes, board games, sports equipment and display boards that we would like to be made available for other groups to borrow. So if you take these items away we will ask you to become a Comoodle Custodian (see below).
How many things can I take?
We want these resources to be distributed among as many community groups as possible, so initially we are letting each group take away up to 5 items. However you can express an interest in other items and if they are not rehomed, we can pass them to you later.
Can I reserve an item and come back later? (e.g. with a van for larger items)
Yes, but we will need the item to be collected within a week or so.
What's a Comoodle Custodian?
Custodians are groups or individuals who have taken over Council assets on a long-term or permanent basis, to use for their own community activities. Custodians also make these items available for other groups to borrow from them, via the Comoodle online platform.
Is it a lot of hassle being a Custodian?
If you become a Custodian you will use the items first and foremost for your own activities. We do not expect your activities to be inconvenienced by being a Custodian. You can choose to make the items available to other groups on an occasional basis only - and in most cases that is all that is required. The Comoodle team will be on hand to help you with the setting up of the items on our Comoodle website. You will need to set up an online registration if you haven't already; we can help you do this too.
What if I lend something out as a Custodian and it gets broken?
In our experience most borrowers take good care of the things they borrow, but there are a few safeguards in place. You can ask for a deposit and we have a borrower feedback system online where you can view a group's borrowing record. You can also set your own terms and conditions for lending out items.
My group or activity is not based in Kirklees. Can I take things away?
Comoodle is a Kirklees-based project but we are always interested to work with groups from other areas. If you would like to discuss options please email us at [email protected]
