Comoodle is a way of building ‘resilience’ within communities, says Kirklees Council leader, Cllr David Sheard.
Our unique, online sharing platform run by Kirklees Council and supported by The Mayor’s Challenge run by former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, encourages people and businesses to sign-up and share their ‘stuff, space and skills’ to help the Kirklees community.
And Cllr Sheard has praised the impact Comoodle has been making on the area, and is urging more businesses and groups to sign-up.
“People don’t necessarily appreciate that what they’ve got, can be used for someone else and can be shared,” he said.
“It’s a way of responding to cuts. Even if we weren’t in this situation, it’s much, much better to co-operate. Why would you not want to allow and help people and organisations to grow?
“The idea of sharing – that’s the only way we are going to go forward. It does build communities, it does make communities stronger to have that resilience.
“Comoodle is the oil that makes things work. That’s why it’s so important. It’s the concept that we are wanting to grow – and Comoodle helps that happen.
“Sharing has always gone on. But the problem was people not knowing what others had. The benefit of Comoodle is to try and make sharing easier.”
The Comoodle project is a winner of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ 2014 Mayors Challenge, an ideas competition to inspire bold and creative ideas in cities that will improve people’s lives and that have the potential to spread to other cities.
Whether it’s a free community hall, a shelf for storage, art lessons or music equipment, if you’ve got it to share – please get in touch with us and sign-up to help others!
