CASE STUDY: How Comoodle Helped Mack Studios in the Community Get Started
by The Comoodle Team on January 9, 2019
Find out about how Adele Mack has used Comoodle over the past 6 months to successfully help her set up a new organisation working to break down barriers in her community, raise the profile of her group and form new partnerships, AND become an Expert Comoodler...
Mack Studios 2
Adele Mack runs a successful Yoga and Dance Studio in Batley (Mack Studios), but had an aspiration to do something in her community that would help to break down barriers and bring people together. With the help of More In Common and Streetgames she set up a 'Fit and Fed' programme in the Summer Holidays, helping children stay active and eating healthily and with the support of Community Plus and the Council's Sports and Physcial Activity Development Team she used Comoodle to borrow all the toys and resources she needed. She also listed her SPACE - a dance studio and indoor training area on Comoodle for other community groups to use.
"Everyone played and ate together and the atmosphere was fantastic. We started out with nothing, so it's fantastic that people share. We could use their toys to start up with and then we can buy some in our own time and when we have the money."
The project was a great success and included 27 targeted children, and as a result Mack Studios was able to put in a successful bid to the Council's Community Cohesion team to run mums and tots fitness sessions.
"It's attended by a mix of mums from white and Asian backgrounds and everyone gets on brilliantly."
In addition, Adele has formed a good friendship and partnership with one of the other Comoodlers who leant her some of the toys for the project.
"It's great to know other local likeminded people who are running simmilar community projects to you. Comoodle can link you into a network of people like you."
Adele set up her new social enterprise, Mack Studios in the Community in August and her next ambition is to open a Mental Health Cafe - an informal safe space where people can come to have a conversation to help combat isolation, depression and anxiety. If you've got STUFF, SKILLS OR SPACE that you can share with Adele to help make this happen, then why not get in touch?...
