What would you like to do in your community that you can’t do at the moment because you don’t have the right stuff, space or skills?
Do you have tools that aren’t used all of the time, a meeting room that’s sometimes empty or time to show a neighbour how to cook healthy meals on a budget?
Wouldn’t it be great if we could all make use of what we’ve got, when we need it?
It’s a really exciting time for collaboration. Companies such as Netflix, Uber, Airbnb and Zipcar are rewriting the rule book on how we access and share resources. We think the time has come for us to redesign how we manage public resources too.
We know that communities have the potential to pull together and make a real difference in their neighbourhoods. Yet masses of stuff, space and skills are unused or not used to capacity. Often we don’t know what’s available, or how to access it.
Comoodle is our idea for connecting people who have a passion to make their area better, giving everyone access to the resources we need and building trust through sharing.
We will develop an online tool for people to share and request assets – from the public sector, community groups and local businesses. These resources can then be accessed by whoever needs them, when you need them.
We want Comoodle to enable us all to think ‘what can we do with what we’ve got?’ rather than ‘how much will this cost?’
We’re just getting started, and the first thing we’ll be sharing is ideas.
